FAQs

Barnyard Discoveries is licensed through the United States Department of Agriculture so we are subject to periodic “surprise” inspections both at the farm and an event. We are proud to have accomplished this standard as the health, care, and treatment of our animals is a top priority. We carry full liability insurance, proof of which can be provided.
Our travel fee is charged one way from our farm located near Kickapoo, IL. This central location allows us to effectively serve an area that includes Peoria, Morton, Pekin, Canton, Galesburg, Kewanee, Quad Cities, Macomb, Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, Bloomington, Rockford, LaSalle/Peru, Sterling/Rock Falls and all other cities and villages within this general footprint. Travel fees vary depending on distance, please call for more information.
It all depends on the package you choose. The mobile farm exhibition trailer requires an area about 10×60 and can easily park along a street curb or parking lot. The Private Party canopy can be set up in a twelve foot square area in the yard or on the driveway. Our Little Friends package can be set up outside, but is especially well suited to a classroom where we can bring the animals inside and put plastic on the floor just in case of accidents. This is a popular package for Daycares and Kindergartens and Nursing Homes.
If the weather is questionable we will contact you to discuss options. Possibilities include waiting till later in the day, moving indoors, or rescheduling for a different date. The mobile farm exhibition trailer is equipped with an outside awning and all of the animals are housed in the heated and air conditioned trailer so we can accommodate guests even on rainy days.
We make every effort to arrive at your event about a half hour prior to your scheduled start time. However, we are dealing with animals and sometimes our plans for loading and preparing to leave don’t always agree with theirs.  We just ask that you be understanding and know that we will do our best and stay later if necessary.
The sooner the better, we set all of our appointments on a first come first served basis determined by the receipt of your deposit. We do have dates already booked 8 to 10 months in advance.
It would be best if you could keep your pets tied or kenneled while the event is going on.
You can pay by personal or business check, in cash, or online by PayPal. If paying by PayPal we ask that you do so prior to your event date, otherwise payment will be expected upon our arrival prior to set up.
All animals carry bacteria (good and bad) – including us. But there is little need to be overly concerned about any potential health or injury risks as long as suitable behavior, precautions, and hygiene rules are observed. These include washing or sanitizing your hands after touching animals, keeping food and drinks outside the animal areas, and preventing children from putting their hands or objects (such as pacifiers or sippy cups) in their mouths while interacting with the animals. Children and adults should be reminded not to touch their faces or put their hands near their mouths after touching animals. We provide hand sanitizer and have signage reminding visitors to observe basic hygiene rules at all of our events, and if you have water available for hand washing, that is even better. You are ultimately responsible for you and your children’s own safety. Do not put hands or fingers near an animal’s mouth (they can and will bite) and do not provoke or mistreat an animal in any way, they can become upset and cause injury. Common sense is the best precaution.
